The famous ride sharing app Uber has arrived in Malaysia. I have tried it out and it's fantastic !
It's very easy to get started, just need a smartphone to use it. Basically you first download the app from Appstore (Android devices) or Apple Store (iPhone devices). You will then need to register.
As a rider, all you need is a credit card. For those who do not have a credit card, debit cards are also accepted. The credit card information has to be keyed into during user registration stage. The reason is to ease payment. During the entire ride, no money is exchange at all, payment is done electronically.
To hail an Uber Car, just launch the Uber app, pin the pickup point to the map, this is to enable the Uber driver to know where to pick up. This pinning of the pickup point is very very important because if pinned wrong the driver will have a hard time finding you.
At present moment, it seems the fares are slightly cheaper than our normal 20year old Proton Saga Taxis. There's 3 categories of Uber cars but for now it's better to stick to UberX category whereby its pricing is cheaper than our normal taxis and its supply around KL and Petaling Jaya (including Taman Desa and Danau Permai) is considered sufficient. I check it during weekends and weekdays no problems without getting an UberX car and all within 10 mins.

One thing you need to take note is the price fluctuates (termed as price surge) during certain times but don't worry too much about it as it will be shown before you hail the UberX car. One tip is to wait until the price surge ends then only start to hail the car, it usually takes around 10-15 mins.
